With any new skill we acquire, there is a period of transition and adjustment. The same applies to organizing. Although some may assume itâs simply an innate way of being, itâs actually a learned and practiced behavior. For all the years that Order in the House has been helping others restore order in their lives, we have come to find there are some key ingredients to a successful transition into practicing an organized lifestyle. So, if youâre ready to start your New Year off on a more organized foot, these tools will be a great place to start.
Create a To Do List
Chaos is sure to ensue if we are juggling too many things in our brains. More often than not, a simple To Do List can help ensure our daily must accomplish items get completed on time and with less stress. Take a moment before going to bed to create a list of all you hope to accomplish the next day. If youâre able to project yourself into the future, youâll always be ahead of the game.
Never Leave a Room Empty-Handed
We see many clients with a variety of brands of the same type of product – most of the time unused. Keep it simple. Have one back up of your favourite products, and only buy the items you use, when you need them.  This will not only reduce clutter but save money too!
One of the easiest ways to stay organized is to live with less. If you are able to schedule regular de-cluttering sessions in your home, you will feel lighter because of it. Start small. It can be something as simple as a junk drawer or a shelf in your closet. Pick a charity that means something to you and donate all of your no longer needed items.
Stick with What Works
We see many clients with a variety of brands of the same product – most of the time unused. Keep it simple. Have a back up of what you need if necessary (like bathing products) and just buy when ready to reduce additional clutter.
Mail and other important paper documents should have a place of their own. Creating a paper-flow and filing systems will eliminate scattered papers throughout the house and serve as a reminder for bills to be paid and notices to be actioned. For a more detailed “how to” – check out our lifestyle video on how to organize paperwork.
Ask For Help
If you feel like itâs too big of a bite for you to tackle on your own, donât be apprehensive to ask for help.  Sometimes a simple hands-on session with one of our professional team members can be enough to give you the momentum you need to keep going.
Start this year with a fresh organized slate. Even if you just implement one of these tools, it can help simplify and refine your everyday living!
